The traditional 'flag-raising' ceremony marks the beginning of a new construction phase at CityWave: the structural works of the building have been completed, reaching the highest level in the concrete structures and the casting of the last floor.
We were honored to celebrate this important milestone with Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan, Philippe Donnet, Generali Group CEO, Aldo Mazzocco, CEO of Generali Real Estate S.p.A. and Chairman of CityLife S.p.A., Paolo Micucci, CEO of CityLife S.p.A., Woody Bradford, CEO of Generali Investments, and the architect Bjarke Ingels.
A huge thanks to the CityLife technical team led by Marco Beccati, the BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group staff, and all the workers from Colombo Costruzioni S.p.A. and CMB, alongside international experts in structural and plant engineering, material studies, and wind tunnel testing, for bringing their best competences to the CityWave construction.
CityWave, designed by Bjarke Ingels Group, focuses on sustainability and quality of life. This next-generation office building will ‘complete without competing’ the iconic skyline of CityLife's three towers, with unique and unprecedented challenges and solutions in terms of architecture, engineering, and sustainability.
The structure consists of two buildings with variable geometry connected by a wood and steel canopy, creating a new public space underneath. The canopy, built as a suspended bridge between two pylons, presents ambitious design challenges related to statics and wind resistance. It will be covered with 11,000 sqm of photovoltaic panels, producing around 1.3 MWh/year. The use of solar and geothermal energy will save the emission of about 400 tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to the CO2 absorbed by 15,000 trees. CityWave is the only building in Italy to achieve three top-level international sustainability certifications: WiredScore Platinum, WELL v2 Core Platinum pre-certification, and LEED Core Shell v4 Platinum pre-certification.
Construction works now continue at full speed, aiming for completion in 2026!
