Urban beekeeping on the roofs of three buildings in Brussels

TOPICS:Climate change / Tenant engagement

The World Bee Day recently held spread awareness about the importance of bees for pollination as a fundamental process for bio diversity and the survival of our ecosystems. Did you know that the population of pollinators is in decline around the world? This is mainly due to pesticides, habitat loss and climate change, threatening fruit and vegetables production that largely depends on pollination.

Beehives can be successfully and safely installed in an urban environment, bringing positive impacts to the surrounding ecosystem, nurturing biodiversity and green. In collaboration with Alvéole, a social company committed to innovative and urban bee keeping, beehives can be found on the roofs of three buildings in Brussels, that Generali Real Estate is the asset manager of: Montoyer, Champs de Mars and Legrand.

Tenants in the buildings have been involved in a series of workshops to learn more about bees, how to take care of them in an urban setting, and how honey is produced – a great way to educate and inspire communities around bees and their role in the present and the future of our environment.

And yes, urban beehives are also producing delicious, hyperlocal honey!
