Where history meets culture: Procuratie welcomes a new arts centre in Venice!

TOPICS: Community Impact

With the opening of SMAC San Marco Art Centre (SMAC) the Procuratie reaffirms its role as a unique venue where art, culture, history, sustainability, and social innovation come together in the heart of Venice.

This 500-year-old architectural masterpiece on St Mark's Square was brought back to life in 2022 through a meticulous restoration by David Chipperfield, led by Generali Real Estate - reopening it to the city and the world.

Since then, the third floor hosts the Home of The Human Safety Net, a movement of people helping people, initiated by Generali and dedicated to unlocking the potential of people living in vulnerable conditions, in 25 Countries.

Now, we are delighted to open the second floor to the public, welcoming SMAC San Marco Art Centre - a pioneering new arts centre with a dynamic exhibition programme developed in collaboration with world-class international institutions and curators.

SMAC’s inaugural exhibitions, open until 13 July, spotlight two innovators in their fields:

Migrating Modernism. The Architecture of Harry Seidler’ – exploring the legacy of the Australian modernist architect

For All That Breathes on Earth: Jung Youngsun and Collaborators’ – showcasing the work of the Korean landscape architect

The programme continues this autumn with The Quantum Effect - an exhibition bridging science, art, cinema, architecture, and philosophy, exploring the intersection of quantum science and creative expression.

At Generali Real Estate, we believe in the power of art and culture to transform communities and enrich lives. We are proud to host and support inspiring initiatives within our buildings!
